Ever wondered how you could safely make your own household cleaning products that won’t negatively affect your family’s health or the environment of your home?
They are naturally packed with antibacterial, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
I have been using essential oils to make my own (DIY) household products for the past seven years and I have not looked back.
Buying essential oils can be a small investment compared to other cleaning products, but they have saved me money overtime.
Essential oils have many uses and can be used to replace household cleaning products. From cleaning furniture and utensils to cleaning grout and stains in the bathroom.

Lavender Oil can be used with the help of baking soda to clean the very stubborn stains from your carpet.
Step 1: Mix about a dozen drops of lavender oil and an ounce of baking soda
Step 2: Sprinkle it on the carpet.
Step 3: Let it sit for about 20 minutes.
Step 4: Use your vacuum to clean up the residue. Not only will it clean your carpet, but your room will smell naturally more fresh!
2. Kitchen Scrub Cleaner
Mix Bergamot oil with lime, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide can make a powerful yet natural cleaner for cleaning the sink. It disinfects, plus get rid of odors.
3. Odorless Trash
You can add a few drops of lemon, grapefruit or geranium oil to about a tablespoon of baking soda and sprinkle in the bottom of the trash bin.
Repeat this process in between taking out the garbage for continuous freshness.
4. Keep the Insects Away!
Ever get those annoying insects wandering around the house?
Using a few drops of peppermint, lemongrass, rosemary and/or lavender oil on the window seals of the house can help reduce them tremendously.
5. Car Freshener
If you are anything like me and have a low tolerance for synthetic smells then you may want to make your own car fresheners.
Using a cotton ball, add your favorite essential oil to it and pin it to the AC vents. Your car will smell great in no time.
6. Essential Oil Sunscreen
Make a mixture of 1 part myrrh oil with, 1 part carrot oil and 2 parts jojoba oil to create your all natural sunscreen.
Apply as you would sunscreen… before enjoying fun in the sun.
7. Grout Scum Be Gone
Cleaning those brown lines on the counter top or the bathroom can be tricky.
Combine 10 drops each of tea tree, lemongrass and pine oil.
Then add them to 3 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and one cup of baking soda.
Mix everything altogether to create a paste.
Add sparingly to your scour sponge, apply to the grout, scrub well.
Essential Oils may not have been the first thought that came to your mind; when thinking of scenting your car or cleaning your kitchen sink.
Everyone should have a collection of essential oils in their home. They can be used to reduce and even eliminate the use of toxic cleaners that may pollute your home and the environment.
